My goal in the pursuit of making art is to reflect upon, and represent the underlying, the spiritual reality of things. Often the truly important things in life can pass us by. Moments in which we transcend our limitations and act bravely or heroically can disappear due to the sheer rapidity of life. I strive to capture, to suspend these moments so we can reflect upon them and let them interact with our lives in a meaningful way. My hope is that when people see my work, they can see themselves or some aspect of their lives reflected and that their spirit will respond.

A sculptor, who started his work in the medium of Bronze, he learned the craft at Anoka-Ramsey Community College, and later, by working for other sculptors. A Bachelor of Studio Arts from Hamline University later complimented and deepened his technical and aesthetic knowledge. James has taught classes on bronze casting and sculpture. He has built and operates his own foundry in Minneapolis.

James has shown his work both locally and nationally and has completed a number of commissions. Among these is a puppet theatre for the Children’s Museum, an annual trophy for the lighthearted “Stumbleton Open” Tennis tournament, and a three-figure life height sculpture for the then corporate headquarters of Diversified Pharmaceuticals, now Express Scripts.

James, a husband and a father of two, has built a two story studio in the backyard of his northeast minneapolis house. There he is lucky enough to sculpt with his boys... below are some pictures of james with his sons in the studio.
